Digital future – right out of Paris
Paris in winter feels kind of the same as Berlin does. NOT nice. But I ignore the mean cold wind as I am on my way to le web which is to be said the biggest web conference in Europe. Looking at the programme it feels it is also the one with the strongest focus on technology. Urgh. At least they try to add a little bit of content, presenting “love” as the overall theme. Will see how lovely this turns out to be. I will do my very best to make at least lovely for you.
Let`s start with the best part: ATMOSPHERE: As always it totally strikes me when I enter the location: 1400 international crazy web people strolling around, mystically all looking extremely good and, of course, dynamic. But the thing which makes me feel addicted to this kind of conferences is what I call the closed door phenomena. Once you are in, you are immediately into people, no barriers left. I start talking to strangers from the first minute on, and in an instant, I feel connected with them. Just to find out later on, that I will find out, having talked to one of the hottest investors, the coolest fashion model (360 degree fahsion) or exchanged kind of intimate thougts about your loved ones. That happened to me while I was sitting next to Martin Sorrell at last year’s dld. Those of who you have an idea about his appearance will have a clue about what this means…
Anyway right now we are singing “love is in the air” conducted by Itay Talgam who apparently is a famous conductor. Ah group dynamic… I like. But somehow it feels like he was invited just to get some cutural feeling into this gathering. Don`t really feel connected with his talk. But maybe it is because of the arctic cold in this former mortuary hall. No heating for 1.500 Euros, wow.
But apparently it is neither the food nor even the people on stage why people get magnified by this place. The trigger is: people. And there we go: love – people – spirit. And the technology aspects does not bother me that much anymore.
